Since 1995, Calvary Church has invited families with "Special Needs" members in the Charlotte area to Luke 14 Banquets during the Christmas season. These special events include:
- A festive meal, with a member of Calvary hosting each table
- A Christmas program with singing, testimonies, and a Gospel message
- A gift for each guest including those with disabilities and their caregivers
Every year, over 300 Calvary volunteers are trained to interact with our guests, who have a wide variety of special needs. Last year over 850 attended Luke 14 events!
Calvary offers TWO Luke 14 events to better serve the needs of our guests:
Luke 14 Family Banquet
Saturday, December • 5:30 PM, Crown Room
This dinner is for families with "Special Needs" members.
Luke 14 Luncheon
Tuesday, December • 11:30 AM, Crown Room
This luncheon is for "Special Needs" friends in group homes in our community.
Luke 14 events are truly a highlight of the Christmas season for Calvary volunteers and hopefully for every guest. We always hope to gain a heightened understanding of the needs of families with disabilities and minister more effectively.
Guests who are friends, family, or members of Calvary are notified via a mailed invitation. Please visit the Galleria table in November to share names and mailing addresses of new special needs families to invite, or contact Sue Rimer by November 15.
We need hundreds of volunteers to serve as greeters, table hosts, gift processors, gift givers, meal servers, or prayer team members. Table hosts and greeters must be Calvary members or regular attenders (18+ yrs old; youth must serve with their parents), and attend the training meeting before the event. Sign-up begins at the Galleria tables in November. All food servers must register with Food Service, 704.887.3663.
Volunteer Training held the day of the event:
Saturday, December • 4:00 PM, Crown Room
Tuesday, December • 10:00 AM, Crown Room
