Conquering the Deadly Sins

The sins of pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, greed, and lust are alive and well in our modern culture of self-indulgence. Taking a biblical look at them sets forth the blessing of taking up God’s gracious resources in putting them to death. Empowered by the Spirit, we can put off vice and put on virtue (Ephesians 4:22–24). Join us as we learn how to reclaim the biblical vision of virtue in our self-indulgent world.

The Protestant Reformation and Beyond: Understanding the Christian Faith, Part 1

Calvary Church is a Protestant church. What does it mean to be Protestant (and not Catholic or Eastern Orthodox)? This 12-week class will describe the Protestant Reformation and how it led to Christianity in the United States. We will look at four major 17th-century Protestant movements, discuss how Christianity migrated from Europe to America, and survey how our Christian faith has been practiced in the United States since the American Revolution. Along the way, we will examine how these lessons apply to Christians today.
Biblical Theology: A Redemptive–Historical Lens, Part 1

This class focuses on the discipline of Biblical Theology, which traces how God has revealed Himself and His plan of redemption progressively throughout Scripture, culminating in Christ. Unlike topical studies that ask, “What does the Bible teach about this subject?” Biblical Theology asks, “How did God make this truth known across time and through His Word?” Using the Gospel according to John as our primary lens, we will explore its background, themes, and key passages to see how John’s unique account fits into the larger story of God’s saving work. Together, we will learn to read Scripture not just as isolated passages, but as part of the unfolding drama of God’s redemptive plan.
Twisted Scripture, Twisted Theology

So many passages of Scripture are taken out of context, even by well-meaning Christians, and twisted to create bad theology. Scripture should always be exegeted to reveal its true meaning. In this course, we will use proper hermeneutics and Bible study methods to examine and exegete many commonly misunderstood Scripture verses to determine their true meanings.
A Caregiver’s Walk in the Twilight

There is no greater challenge or blessing than being a caregiver. This class will be a journey through the challenges of caregiving for a loved one with dementia. We will look at the biblical response to this terrible disease, its causes, how to anticipate what comes next, how to build a support team, how to pay for care and assistance, and how to move forward. If you’re a caregiver or have been on this journey, you’re invited to join us. We learn best in community!

El Fruto Del Espíritu Gálatas 5:22,23
Existe una ley natural y es que el fruto siempre ha revelado la naturaleza del árbol. De la misma manera, en el plano espiritual, las Escrituras nos muestran que todo convertido genuinamente al Señor Jesucristo, tiene al Espíritu Santo morando en su vida y sí o sí, habrá fruto y evidencia en un seguidor de Cristo. Cada semana vamos a enfocar en uno de los nueve aspectos del fruto del Espíritu mencionado en nuestro texto central. La invitación de este curso es doble, para analizar los aspectos del fruto del Espíritu Santo y también para disponer el corazón para que se desdibuje nuestra propia imagen caída y se comience a definir la imagen del Hijo.
